Cats are insecure, territorial and confrontational by nature. So, it can be tricky to introduce a new cat into your home.
The best way to do it is not to let the cats loose immediately. Rather, the way to have new cats meet each other is through smell first. An animal carrier like the one above allowed the cats to approach eah other on their own terms, and avoided a fight.
This is a friend's cat, Smoggy, who visited the house. After Qtip climbed over the cats carrier, they got to smell each other. When the carrier opened, the Smoggy came out and explored the house while Qtip sniffed out her kennel.
This cat play session went well--there were no fights. But Smoggy was scared, maybe of the dog, and hid most of the time in the closet in a bedroom.
